I got into Digicel’s week-long test of their new 4G data network today. After some hiccups during the afternoon, the following are my average speed test results this evening using the BlackBerry browser on my Torch 9810.
I expect that they’ll spend the next few days shaking out bugs and ironing out kinks, but so far, things look good and the consistent 1.4Mbps is welcome on a mobile device.
The word is that Digicel intends to officially launch next week.
You may remember Kimbra from one of my earlier posts. She put in a guest appearance on Gotye’s tune “Somebody I Used To Know”.
As an aside, Gotye’s tune is this week at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, up from position 3 the previous week.
I was trawling Facebook tonight and ran across a video that my brother-in-law Antony posted. The clip featured an unplugged performance by Kimbra at the South-by-Southwest Festival in March just gone. It was a fantastic live rendition of her song “Settle Down” from her album “Vows”, soon to be released in the US.
Equipped with what appears to be two iPads and mics, Kimbra pulled samples of her own voice right there in front of the crowd as part of the performance to back up her vocals, and put down an amazing rendition of her song. You can find the official video for “Settle Down” here.
But her track “Two Way Street” pulled me on Youtube, not as much for the track itself and not that it too isn’t a great piece of music. But the official lyric video that was done for the song is amazing, and apt.
The animated video is rendered completely in black and white, or maybe I should say in pen and ink. It, to me, pays homage to all those doodles that people have scribbled in notebooks, textbooks and on various bits of paper when they’ve been falling in love. And that by itself lends really well to the song.
Arsenal played Wigan at the Emirates today, and after 8 minutes, they were 2-0 down to the table proppers.
On 21 minutes, Arsenal full back Tomas Vermaelen scored to pull back one for his team.
I sent a message to the Arsenal fans in my BBM football group asking whether Vermaelen was playing out of position and inquiring how many he’d now scored for Arsenal for the season.
Without missing a beat, one of the guys responds, “More than Torres.
